I checked Amazon and sure enough there it was. When my Garmin External Speaker with car adapter came apart I could not find a replacement adapter in any area store. Everyone told me it had been discontinued. I never realized how much I depended on my "Jill" that's the name we have given out Garmin until she couldn't function. Once I received my new adapter "Jill" came back to life and I could find my way more easily.
I own a Garmin Streetpilot 2620 and purchased this external speaker to replace the broken tip on the original external speaker purchased in 2004. The good news is that Garmin has finally redesigned the tip in this current version of the external speaker. However, there is a much cheaper solution.Garmin offers a "External speaker repair kit" from their 1-800 customer service that can replace the same parts. I purchased this kit which includes all the possible parts that could possibly break on your external speaker (tip, plastic screw, a fuse, and the spider clip).Garmin finally got it right with this model of the speaker.
The product works fine and the delivery time was excellent. The price was still a little high, but much better than you could purchase it from Garmin. I love my Garmin GPS, but I find that this integral part of the system is prone to failure and repeated replacement. Because of poor engineering design or whatever, Garmin should stand behind their product better and either design a better adapter, or at least discount the existing design to GPS owners.
Rather than shell out $30 to $40 for another flimsy replacement, one can just go to Radio shack and buy a "Y" cigarette lighter accessory (allowing 2 accessories to plug into one socket). This assumes you can salvage the pieces from your broken plug-in. Simply reassemble the broken pieces (make sure the fuse is there), and slide all into one of the sockets on the "Y", then tape the Garmin plug and "Y" socket together to make sure it remains secure. You now have the new "Y" to plug in and out of the cigarette lighter and an extra socket on the "Y" for your celphone.
The one that came with my GPS broke, and this one works as good as that one. No difference.
